CORNISH LANGUAGE FOCUS GROUPS QUESTIONNAIRE

The organisers of this project are EKOS Limited, a firm of economic consultants and researchers located in Inverness who have undertaken much research work and consultancy in Cornwall, and SGRUD Research, a research service organised by Professor Kenneth MacKinnon from his base on the Black Isle and which has undertaken numerous studies and surveys on Gaelic and other lesser-used languages. These companies are jointly undertaking an independent study on the Cornish Language today on behalf of Government Office for the South West, as a basis for the signature of the European Charter for Regional and Minority Languages by the United Kingdom government.

Question 5. What have been the main difficulties in this process so far in terms of attitudes and perceptions?

 

SECTION 3: RESOURCES

Question 6. What are the chief needs of the language revival in terms of resources and provisions?

Question 7. What are the principal sources of financial support for your organisation?

Question 8. How easy or difficult has it been to raise money or to get adequate finance?

Question 9. What projects have been able successfully to attract funding, and what have been the results?

Question 10. What do you see as the principal needs regarding adult learners' classes?

Question 11. Are Cornish language nursery schools and playgroups effective for children?

Question 12. What problems and needs are being experienced in the preschool stages?

Question 13. Is there any effective demand for Cornish-medium school-level education? Is this being addressed?

Question 17. Is Cornish being successfully revived in the family ? Are Cornish speaking families and children a reality?

Question 20. How can a place for Cornish be developed further in the media, public entertainments and the arts?

Question 21. How does Cornish feature in public events, ceremonies, rituals, etc.? Can this role be enhanced?

Question 22. What common public perceptions of Cornish can be recognised? Are these helpful? If not, can they change?
